Pablo Picasso, Rose Period

Pablo Picasso, Spanish was renown for his achievements in Modern Art. When he lived in Montmartre, Bateau-Lavoir he painted themes of clowns, carnival performers and harlequins. The color choice was in reds, pinks(rose), orange and earth tones. He experimented with primitivism and admired pre-Roman sculpture and African Art. His African period was in 1907.

In 1905 he painted Acrobate et Jeune Arlequin. This was an oil on canvas. In the painting he depicts the Acrobat in a stunning brilliant red with his sword held by the blade in his hand. The Young Harlequin is beside him painted in pink(rose), burgundy, blues and light brown. Both figures have a rather somber but strong look. This painting is in the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia. You should make a day trip and view this painting.
